Art is about seeing! In 1st grade we recently studied Vincent Van Gogh. Did you know Van Gogh's favorite color was yellow? He lived in a yellow house, and outside his house grew beautiful sunflowers. Van Gogh would pick them and paint them over and over again until the flowers drooped and peddles fell.
We were so lucky to have bright fresh sunflowers in our art room to study. We looked closely and observed the sunflowers. Using pencil to sketch, then oil pastels to add and blend colors.
These works came out fantastic and many can be found in our school's Artsonia Gallery.
